Established in San Francisco, Berggruen Gallery has been a cornerstone of the West Coast art scene for over five decades. Working across both primary and secondary markets, the gallery specializes in the exhibition and sale of 20th- and 21st-century American and European paintings, drawings, sculpture, and limited edition prints. Since opening in 1970, Berggruen has built a consistent history of engaging international audiences with pioneering art and has played a significant role in introducing New York and international artists to West Coast collectors and art enthusiasts.
The gallery has long been an advocate for California artists, helping to grow the careers of Wayne Thiebaud, Richard Diebenkorn, and Ed Ruscha, as well as artists associated with the Bay Area Figurative Movement, including Nathan Oliveira, Elmer Bischoff, Paul Wonner, and David Park. Berggruen was also the first San Francisco gallery to show works by Helen Frankenthaler and Frank Stella, and was instrumental in bringing other major East Coast artists to California at key moments in their careers-among them Robert Motherwell, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, and Mark di Suvero.

As a leader in the San Francisco art scene, Berggruen Gallery continues to collaborate with institutions across the Bay Area and the United States. A member of the Art Dealers Association of America since 1975, the gallery is housed in a renovated, historic three-story building. The space features 10,000 square feet of exhibition space, including two floors of galleries and a floor dedicated to project and event programming-a physical reflection of the gallery's commitment to both its history and its ongoing evolution.
