Ed Loftus (b. 1973, London, England) lives and works in Oakland, California. Loftus specializes in photo-realistic graphite drawings and is known for a meticulous, sustained engagement with observation, repetition, and the quiet intensity of everyday subjects. His practice often unfolds through extended bodies of work, in which focused attention and accumulation become central to both process and meaning.
Loftus’ work has been included in numerous group exhibitions at institutions such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Berkeley Art Museum, as well as at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento and venues in New York and Los Angeles. He has also participated in major international art fairs including The Armory Show, Frieze, and Art Basel Miami Beach.
Loftus’s work has been widely written about and published, including coverage in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and SF Weekly, and in exhibition catalogues such as The Architecture of Life (Berkeley Art Museum, 2016). His drawings are held in the permanent collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others, the Berkeley Art Museum and the J. Michael Bishop Art Collection at Mission Bay, University of California, San Francisco.
