Biography
Rachel Simon Marino (b.1989, San Francisco) attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her BFA. Her work is frequently featured in group presentations in the United States, including recent exhibitions at the De Young Museum (San Francisco), James Cohan Gallery (New York), Marin MOCA (San Rafael), GGLA (Los Angeles), Evergold Projects (San Francisco), and Venus Over Manhattan (New York). Marino's artistic practice centers on the exploration of the uncanny and moments of suspended action. Her illusionistic paintings often depict fantastical scenarios where characters are poised at the edge of disaster or drama. Marino's cinematic spaces teeter between the real and the unreal. Her bold chromaticism, and graphically patterned landscapes and interiors, arrest the viewer with assertive and unsettling joy. In addition to her studio practice, Marino has a significant history in illustration and prop design. Marino lives and works in San Francisco, California.
